Remember me

So you might be asking yourself “who is Freema Agyeman?”  I would be too if someone mentioned her name to me.  But if you’re a fan of the wonderful world of Doctor Who, then you’ll know that Freema plays Martha Jones, the Doctor’s companion in season 3, a few episodes in season 4 and also appears in Torchwood season 2 (a spinoff series).

The reason Freema is on my list is because…well…there was just something about her and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen when watching Doctor Who.  There’s not much I know about her past so I checked some fansites to find out a little about her past.  She’s got a BA Honours in Performing Arts and Drama and also went to Theatre school.  So from that you can obviously tell what she had in mind to pursue as a career.

Probably the coolest thing I found out about Freema was that she’s trained in basic martial arts!  She can kick my ass any day.  Oh yeah, she’s also trained in horse riding and has basic gymnastic skills.

Her first breakout role was in a tv soap called "Crossroads" and was later nominated for best newcomer and also sexiest female in what's on tv.  She made appearances in other shows after that and then she was given her role on Doctor Who.  Currently she's working on other BBC productions but I certainly hope she makes some more future appearances on Doctor Who or either of the spinoff series Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

UPDATE!!  Here's the link for the now classic scene on Chuck featuring The Touch.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esLK8w87h8A

This is for the many fans of the REAL Transformers movie...I'm talking about the animated Transformers: The Movie from the '80's.  The greatest thing about that movie was the soundtrack which included the great "You've Got The Touch" song.

Now, for any fan of the Chuck series on NBC, if any of you watched the episode tonight featuring the mission to get to the kill screen of Missile Command in order to get a code, there was a kickass build up scene that played the song.  It was great!  Not only that, the game can be completed to the tune of "Tom Sawyer" by Rush.

If you're a fan of British television there's an excellent comedy series that was just recently released on dvd called Spaced.  It's directed by Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost (all of whom are from Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz) and Jessica Hynes.  It's about Tim (Wright) and Daisy (Hynes) who meet and decide to pose as a couple in order to move into a flat.  Hijinks ensue with Tim's best friend Mike (Frost), the landlady Marsha, the artist that lives in the same building Brian and Daisy's best friend Twist.

The dvd is the complete series which consists of 2 full seasons of the show (7 episodes each).  Lots of scifi spoofs such as Star Wars and The Matrix are thrown in there and there's one recurring character that shows up twice, Tyres, who is classic!  If you want to see a little sample of Spaced, check out the gunfight scene!

I've been watching the new tv show Flashpoint, which covers the exploits of the Strategic Response Unit in Toronto.  I've watched the first three episodes, and here is my eight word nutshell review:

Love it, love it, love it, LOVE IT!

The SRU springing into action

Flashpoint is soooooo good; at first I wanted to watch it just for the fact that the show is about Toronto, but the stories are amazing - the tactics, equipment, and action of the SRU is seriously cool, but the way they weave in the emotional impact of a single lost life is outstanding; they pack a serious emotional punch at the end of each show.  It's a Canadian show, but CBS has picked it up and it's also on the air in the US.

If you haven't seen it yet, you can watch previous episodes online (in HD!) at www.cbs.com/primetime/flashpoint

Flashpoint gets bonus points for having Mark Taylor on the cast.  He played Romeo on an old kid's show Student Bodies, which happened to be one of my favourite shows as kid...

To think I saw all of this years coolest trailers.  There's a movie coming our way at the end of the year called Bitch Slap.  On its website, they call it "a throwback to the "B" movie/exploitation films of the 1950's - 70's, mixing hot girls, fast cars, big guns, nasty tongues, outrageous action and jaw-dropping eye candy with a message".  What should you do now?

When you get to the site, go to the bottom and click on "What the %@#*!?"  You'll be taken to another page where you can click on the trailer and enjoy!

The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan's incredible sequel to Batman Begins, earned $155.3 million during its opening weekend to beat out Spider-Man 3 for top spot at the box office.

Let's move on to more important, unrelated news...Shannen Doherty has been confirmed to return to 90210, the new CW series premiering this fall.  Also returning are Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling and Joe E. Tata as Nat, owner of the Peach Pit!
