Remember me
So my first week of FatOff2 included 2 runs and a two hours of basketball on Saturday.
  • Initial weight: 188 lbs
  • This week's weight: 187 lbs
  • Lost a pound the first week which means at this rate of a pound a week, I'll actually be able to hit my target of 8 pounds lost in 8 weeks.

It'll be tough for me to keep that up for this week, however: I'm off to Las Vegas for a work conference on Tuesday night and I'll be returning on Sunday afternoon.  I'll try to get in some jogging while in Vegas... oh, who am I kidding, that's not gonna happen.  I'm not even gonna bother bringing my running shoes.  Sara and Cam will be joining me in Vegas on Thursday night, and Wednesday I'm planning on catch Penn and Teller, so really I won't have any nights free anyways.

I'll also be missing basketball as well, which means it'll be a week of zero physical activity.  I'll be happy just to keep the status quo on my weight.

Missing basketball may actually not be a bad thing: I had a freakish eye injury last Saturday when going for a rebound amid a crush of bodies - somebody's goggles hit me in the eye.  Hard.

    Freakish eye injury

It was bleeding at first, but overall really not too bad of an injury.  I shudder to think what could have happened had the contact been a half-inch further down.  It'll be good to give it another week to heal before subjecting it to sweat and contact again.
Just got back from a run and it's absolutely FRIGID out there, especially with a strong and very cold wind coming off the Bay and blowing directly into my face.  It's been as cold as I can remember and I could even see my breath - that never happens when there's no fog!!  I just checked the weather and it's 10C right now.  With the wind, it was probably around 8 degrees!  In San Francisco!!!  Freezing!!!!!

Anyways, I'm starting to jog again.  This was actually my second session this week, after having run for the first time on Monday night.  It's been over eight months since I last ran, and sleep levels are way low with Cam now, so I figured I'd be dead after 10 minutes of running, but it turns out that it was not too bad.  My first run was a very solid 35 minute run and tonight I got in a 20 minute session.  I've actually started playing basketball once a week and I've been out to three basketball sessions so that's probably boosted my endurance level.

I realized that I never did post my final weigh-in from the original FatOff last August.  I don't quite remember the numbers, but I do remember that I neither gained nor lost weight from the original start weight so I that means I finished at 189 lbs.  I guess we all know where Cam gets his fattiness from.  :)

I'm starting up another FatOff.  Same as before, I'll see how much weight I can lose in two months.  Playing basketball again will definitely help as not only will it offer a source of physical activity but it will be motivation to keep running - running will increase my endurance which will let me get the most out of the two hours of basketball each week.

I weighed myself this past Sunday so I'll go with that as my starting weigh-in.

  • Initial weigh-in on Sunday March 16: 188lbs
  • Target weight: 180lbs

  • Yeah, that's not a lot of targeted weight loss, but based on my not-exactly-encouraging results from the original FatOff, I'm thinking losing a measly eight pounds will be quite the accomplishment for me.  Let's see how it goes, first weigh in this coming Sunday...

Speaking of being fat, I just took a "How many cannibals could my body feed?" quiz.  Turns out I could be quite the buffet for some tribe out there.
How many cannibals could your body feed?

Hopefully I'll only be able to feed a Jon-and-Kate-sized family after my FatOff.
