11:30pm one Friday night, watching tv.

Up comes George Lagogianes, CityTV's entertainment reporter.  He's reporting from a live concert of Alannah Myles... Alannah Myles!  Last heard in the 90s with her smash hit Black Velvet.  She's performing live at Healey's!  Well that's just a 15 minute walk away, so Sara and I ventured out and headed for the bar.  We ended up not making it in time so we hit the concert on Saturday instead.

Alannah's oooold now... wow she looks old.  And she wasn't that good, unfortunately.  Her voice still sounds great, but the music was borderline awful.  Luckily for her the opening act, The Populars, were amazing!  Great rock sound and they were very entertaining, too.  Pretty much saved the entire night for me.

These guys have a lot of energy and you should check em out live if you ever get a chance.  You can also check em out online @ www.thepopulars.com where you can download some songs.

Here's some 30 second .avi clips I took during their concert (each file is ~2M):

You Took My Ball Away - infectiously fun song
Guitar solo
Guitar solo 2 - some great music here
Guitar solo 3
Guitar solo 4 - going nuts and finishing with one hand!!!
Everything you Are - Great rock song with awesome guitar solo

And here are the pics from the performance.
