Synopsis: A group of teens pick up some girl wondering the highway, who eventually shoots herself. The teens end up in the middle of nowhere where one by one they suddenly get attacked by the chainsaw-wielding maniac, Leatherface. The events, of course, lead to horrifying deaths and a pretty cool finale.
First off, I just have to say it, this movie is all about Jessica Biel's breasts. The final half of the movie, the director does everything possible to keep her tight white T-shirt wet for the full effect. Now...back to the movie. For a remake, it was quite good. It wasn't a scene for scene remake but more of a re-envisioning of the movie. Same basic plot though. When comparing it to the original movie, the original is definitely more superior than this one but this remake is still a great horror movie. With Michael Bay producing it, I was expecting huge explosions everywhere (like Armageddon, The Rock, Pearl Harbor). So I was quite surprised it was toned down. But I must say, with the different ending from the first, there's quite the chase scene between Leatherface and Jessica.
Something I found really cool about this movie that was never shown in any of the other TCM movies was that they showed a little glimpse of Leatherface's actual face! What a freak! Another thing that changed was that the family weren't cannibals. They were just crazy f*****s. And that little kid has got some seriously bad teeth!! As for the deaths in this movie, even though they were pretty cool, they weren't as spooky as the original movie. The original TCM has to be the next scariest flick after The Exorcist. The remake just doesn't deliver on the scares but everything is much more stylized.
The acting was a bunch of teens screaming, a family acting crazy and a misunderstood son (Leatherface) running around with his beloved chainsaw.
So I say this is a great little late night movie to watch with a friend or if you want to scare your girlfriend into your arms. It's definitely better than the 3 other sequels but not as good as the first.
Did you know: Certain stars, before they made it big, starred in the TCM sequels. Dennis Hopper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Viggo Mortensen (Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3) and Matthew McConaughey & Renee Zellweger (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation).
