2+ years in development.  200+ patents.
One incredible device.

The Apple iPhone.  Unveiled today at the Macworld Expo, this is the single most amazing device I have ever seen.  Ever.  I didn't think Apple would be able to have an innovative cell phone, as I had believed that cell phones had come along as far as they could.  Boy was I wrong - Apple completely blew away my expectations in going far beyond what anyone could have imagined.  This isn't just a next-generation phone - this is next-generation communication.

Macworld Expo is just down the street from where I am now, and I was kicking myself for not going down there during the unveiling, but as I followed along online I was thankful I wasn't there - I would have been yelling and screaming like a schoolgirl at a Backstreet Boys concert.  I was geeked out just reading about it on my laptop; I would have rendered a blubbering, sobbing mess when facing the iPhone in person.

The Unofficial Apple Weblog has some first looks at the phone, while Engadget has extensive coverage of this and other product announcements at Macworld Expo.  There's also a great article at Times.com about the genesis of the iPhone.

Apple has also provided a streaming video of the iPhone introduction.  Watch.  And be awed.
