Sara had a doctor's appointment this morning, so it was just Cam and I for a couple hours.  It was Cam's first time ever not being with Mommy for more than 15 minutes, and he must have felt her missing presence; about 20 minutes after Sara left, he woke up and started to call for Mommy.  I soothed him best as I could, rocking him, playing with him, changing his diaper, etc.  He was okay with all this for a bit, but soon enough his cries became very loud and it was obvious he was hungry.  I fed him with a bottle.  Correction: I tried to feed him with a bottle.  He was rejecting the bottle, crying while the bottle was in his mouth.  This went on for about 10 minutes, and he just would not accept the bottle.  Luckily Sara came home just then so Cam was able to eat, but rejection of the bottle is not a good thing, especially since we'll be leaving him with daycare come January.  We have two months to get him used to bottle feeding before we hand him off to daycare.  First step will be to start him off with some pumped breast milk, which we are going to do for one of tonight's feedings.

Speaking of daycare, we went to visit one today.  It was a pretty depressing place: building's old and run down and the paint is cracked and peeling.  Inside is not as bad, but is still somewhat depressing.  The bright colours seem faded and muted, and the place just feels run down, dirty, and slightly ghetto.  The babies are sitting in various swings, cribs, high chairs, or crawling around the floor.  Most of them are crying, and the adult supervisors are having difficulty paying attention to all of them.  One of the crying babies was pretty much being ignored - our tour guide said he was new and just adjusting to the place so the crying was to be expected.  I'd hate to think that Cam would be crying and not getting much attention due cuz the handlers think "crying is to be expected."  I can't say it was a bad place, but it didn't feel like a very good place for babies.  Sara summed it up perfectly: "it feels like an orphanage."

This daycare was relatively cheap so perhaps this is a get-what-you-pay-for situation.  I certainly hope so; if all daycares are like this then it's going to be VERY hard to drop Cam off.

Outgrowing his crib already??  Uh-oh...

We had our one month visit with the pediatrician on Wednesday.  Cameron's now 11lbs 6oz and 22 and a quarter inches long.  His weight at birth put him in the 35th percentile, and now he's jumped up to the 75th percentile.  The doctor was amazed and said "I've never seen such growth in the first month in my entire career!"  In his entire career!!!  (Never mind that the doctor just started his career, still lives with his mom, and is in all likelihood younger than us)  Cam's setting growth records.  He's gonna be a six-footer for sure.  I can't wait to teach him how to play basketball!

This explosive growth explains why Cam eats so often, and reduces our frustration over his constant need to eat - he's too busy growing to sleep!  It's always easier to go through some difficulties if you know what's causing them in the first place.

They were administering flu vaccines at the doctor's office for the parents, so we got our flu shots... except they weren't shots - they now are able to deliver the vaccine via a nasal spray!  This is actually supposed to be a better delivery system as the vaccine is able to disperse into your system quicker.  I can't judge whether it was more effective, but I'll take a nasal spray over a needle every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

We met up with Brian and Sooji over the weekend, and Cameron met Haiden for the first time.  Well, Cameron met everyone for the first time, but it was fun watching Cameron and Haiden interact.  Haiden is just soooo much bigger than Cam; comparing their hands was awesome.  Haiden's pretty big for a 10 month old, so we're getting a preview of what Cam's gonna be like.

We went to Costco with Brian and Sooji and it was crazy busy there.  It was very difficult to get around with our stroller, and then Sara needed to feed Cam twice while we were there.  Her first public feedings with Cam - I was nervous as heck, but Sara handled it very smoothly.  We learned that going out with Cam will be difficult with him needing to feed so often, so we'll have to stick with short trips.  Considering how tired we are from lack of sleep, that's probably not a bad thing.

I came across a good article on Computer World which gets into how I feel about the Mac vs. PC.

Basically, I'm very happy with my Mac and it goes beyond the nice UI and hardware.  The Mac, simply put, is extremely low maintenance.  My windows machine at home sometimes doesn't boot up, requiring multiple start up attempts, and sometimes doesn't shut down properly, requiring unplugging of the power cord to actually shut down.  And by 'sometimes' I mean 'three to four times a week'.  I've got two options: spend hours trouble shooting the problem by looking for malware, cleaning out the registry, etc etc, or spend hours reinstalling Windows and all the apps that I currently have installed.  That type of maintenance is pretty much non-existent on the Mac.

Low maintenance = better use of time = happier computer usage

All dressed up for Cam's One Month celebration

Cameron turned one month on Friday and we went out for a nice celebration dinner with cousin John and family.  Sara had been on strict orders from her Mom to stay in for a month, so this was her first outing in three weeks.  She got all dressed up and when cousin John saw her he was amazed at her transformation: "Wow, you look so different, you look good!"  Guess that means she looked pretty bad before.  :)

Cameron's passport showed up in the mail, which was crazy fast - we weren't expecting it to arrive for another two weeks.  We were also a little worried that the final pic we chose for him may get rejected, but obviously it was fine.  Now we're all set to travel back to Toronto for the holidays.  Cam, get ready to meet everybody!

Sprint wireless has been running a commercial that shows a guy tying his shoe laces in a ridiculously quick single step.  I've seen the ad several times but I still couldn't figure out how it was done - it's just so darn fast it's hard to follow.  Internet to the rescue: Sprint has posted this video, along with a bunch of other 'do mundane things faster' clips, on their waitless.org site.
