While in Toronto we were able to successfully bottle feed Cam ...well, when I say "we" really I mean "my mom." Sara, Cam, and I spent a lazy Sunday at my parents' house and my mom worked on bottle feeding Cam. Cam resisted at first and cried a bit, but as he was falling asleep my mom put the bottle in his mouth and he started to play with it and got used to it before falling asleep. Once he woke he started to drink from it, hesitantly at first but with more confidence and in the end he ended up gulping it down. The rest of our stay in Toronto we occasionally bottle fed him and he always accepted the bottle. This was a huge relief as we needed him to accept the bottle while at daycare. Cam had his first boo-boo in Toronto: we were at lunch with my family and I was holding Cam on my lap facing the table. Cam had a cool new hat he got for Christmas and it wasn't sitting on his head properly, so I started to adjust the hat. I was only holding him with my hand on his side, not on his tummy, and he made a sudden move and fell forward. His head banged onto the table edge before I was able to stop him. You heard the thud of his head, then a loud "OH!!!" from everyone at the table and they all jumped out of their seats in reaction to Cam hitting his head. Cam started to cry a bit but actually did not react as strong as I expected - he really is a tough guy. He had a slight red mark on his eyebrow but it disappeared by the end of the day. I guess it wasn't a really bad accident, but boy did my heart explode when I saw/heard the thump of his head on the table edge. Despite the conk on his head, he was in good spirits for the trip and he began to smile and laugh a lot. Cam's laughter is the absolute best thing in the world. :)

Cam's been at daycare for two weeks now.
The first couple days were rough on the little guy - he was crying so much that he actually ended up losing his voice. His cries have been very hoarse and weak and I hate to say it but it was actually kinda cute. :) He's getting his voice back now, though - he's no longer hoarse and while he's unable to hit the top volumes that he used to, his cries are definitely getting stronger and louder. After the first couple days, Cam seemed to get used to the daycare and he was eating and napping regularly and all seemed well. Then he was back home for the weekend and maybe got used to us again - his second week at daycare has been tough. He's barely eating again and is not napping regularly. He's been very fussy with the bottle and it's possibly due to him getting breast fed at home. Sara thinks he's figured out that he'll get the boob at night, so he waits out the feeding attempts during the day. This is problematic as he is back to waking up every hour at night, wanting to eat, and the lack of sleep is killing Sara at work. Cam's almost four months old, he should be able to sleep through the night by now. We've been feeding him the bottle all day today in an attempt to get him familiarized with the bottle again. He took the bottles from us with no fuss at all, hopefully that bodes well for his bottle feeding at daycare. We'll see how it goes...

How do you shoot an epic WWII battle scene in 4 days on a shoe string budget? Computer graphics, baby.

Apple's just announced a new laptop - the Macbook Air. It is the world's thinnest laptop, going 0.16 - 0.76" in thickness. 0.76"!!!!!!! That's crazy thin.
Not only is it thin, it's got some awesome stuff, starting with the multi-touch trackpad which will allow two finger gestures to do things - flip your fingers to rotate images, pinch to zoom in, etc. They introduced this technology on the iPhone and have improved it on the Macbook Air. It's also got other features that I've been wanting in a new laptop, including an LED backlit screen and backlit keyboard. It's also got an extremely cool tech option of an SSD - Solid State Drive. This is a purely flash-based drive with no moving parts, which means super fast read times, better durability, and less power consumption. (SSD is new technology, though, which means it is expensive. Apple has this option priced at $999. Ouch.) The most important feature, though: it is incredibly sexy.
Hit up www.apple.com for details, videos, and pictures of my new dream laptop.

Back in San Francisco now, lots of unpacking to do. It was a great three weeks in Toronto visiting family and friends. I'm sad to leave it all behind, yet it's nice to be back in my own home. I've lots of pictures from Toronto which I'll (hopefully) be posting over the next few days.
The new year brings lots of new things for us - Sara's back to work which means Cam's off to daycare now and I'm sure the daycare will bring lots of excitement for us... hopefully not of the bad kind. |
