I'm sitting on the train ride home, engrossed with my laptop and not paying attention to my surroundings.  We pull into a stop and then suddenly somebody grabs the laptop right off my lap and runs for the door.  I jump up and chase after him, a step behind.  He's about two steps away from the door when I tackle him and we slam into the wall that partitions off the doorway.  He's got my laptop still in his hands and actually gets half his body out the doorway when I grab him again and lock up his legs and drag him back into the train.  We struggle on the ground a bit and I hear somebody yelling "Hey, what's going on?!!" and somebody's coming over to help out.  The thief has dropped the laptop by now, struggles out of my hold, and runs off the train right as the doors close.  This all happened in about 5 seconds, maybe less.

The Macbook is a bit beat up with some dents on the shell, but thankfully it boots up and all seems well.  Me, I've got a couple scrapes and bruises on my leg and for some odd reason there's a cut on my ear but otherwise I'm alright.  My favourite earphones are dead, though - the wire ripped away from the plug when he pulled the laptop off my lap.

It was a black dude who attempted the snatch'n'run, wearing a big black baggy hoodie and matching jeans.   He was about six foot tall and I found out he was quite muscularly built when I tackled him.  Sara thinks he probably targeted me cuz I looked like a geeky Asian working on my laptop; little did he know I am carrying some serious bulk on my frame and mildly athletic - I'm sure he's hurting from my full 190lbs tackling him into the wall.  I'm very lucky that I was sitting in the very middle of the train car; any other seat is closer to the door and he woulda made it out with my laptop.

There are cameras on the train so hopefully they get a shot of him.  I highly doubt they'll find the guy and even if they do I'm not sure what would happen anyways - I still have the laptop so technically he didn't actually steal anything.  I'd love to see the video, though, just to see my tackle.  :)
