Hunting for teeth
Cam's got a tooth!!  You can barely see it, but you can definitely feel the sharp edge poking through when run your finger along his gums.  Poor little guy, the pain's been killing him the past couple days and he's been unable to sleep or eat well over the weekend.  When he tries to eat, the pain seems to be too great and he cries and pushes away from both bottle and boob.  We've tried various things to ease his pain, including giving him a cold wet cloth to suckle as well as a bottle filled with cold water, and it would soothe him a little, but it was very hard to get him to sleep.  It would take over an hour of soothing/rocking before he slept, and then he would wake in 45 minutes and we'd go through it all over again.  Been a rough couple of nights for us.

I called our pediatrician today and he recommended infant Motrin, so we've given Cam a dose and it worked swimmingly; he only cried for a few minutes before the pain subsided and he was able to eat and fall asleep as usual.  (by the way, the dose for Cam was 1.85 mL, which is actually rated for kids aged 12-23 months... or fatties like Cam who weigh 18-23 lbs.)

It's good that we have a remedy and I'm glad his tooth can come out with minimal pain, but I'm sad that he's getting his teeth - I love his toothless grin.  Good thing I've snapped lots of pics of his great smile.

Having fun
Cam's been getting more and more fun to be with; he's so interactive now and it's great fun to play with him.  When he sees either Sara or I, he breaks into his great big toothless grin and while I'm holding him, he'll lunge for Sara, wanting to play with Mommy.  He's also quick with his laughs; as he's watching Sara, all she needs to do is make some sort of high pitched baby sound and he'll start to laugh.

He's also able to sit up by himself now, though he's a bit wobbly and tends to arch his back and fall backwards.  He's supposed to be rolling over both ways by now, but that hasn't happened yet.  He is starting to roll over, though - as soon as I put him down in his crib he'll roll onto his side and fall asleep.  When I'm with him in bed, I like to roll him back and forth in the hopes that he learns how to roll over.  It's questionable just how much he's learning, but it's great fun to roll him back and forth.  :)

Cam's hair has been getting longer and longer and he's developed long wispy bangs hanging down his forehead, and I think it looks really feminine (it's not helping that we've been dressing him in a girly bunny-rabbit looking hoodie on him lately).  We've both wanted to cut his hair for awhile now, but we were both a little worried about giving him a bad haircut - as I said to Sara, "You're going to make him look like Frankenstein."  We've held off giving him a haircut, instead opting to just sweep his long bangs to the side.

Well that all changed this past weekend.  We were car shopping and the sales guy goes "there's lots of room in there for the two of you and your daughter."  We brought Cameron home and cut his hair right away, Frankenstein cut or not.

First cuts are the scariest, of course, as all that's going through your head is that you're going to accidentally lop off his ear or something.  Sara took all of three cuts, leans back, and says "okay, I think that's good, what do you think?"  hahahaha... um, no, we need to cut a little more hair that that.  :)

A few more cuts, nervousness gone, and Sara goes to work on the hair cut in earnest.  No more bangs, no more long hair to hang over his ears, no more girly hair.  Sara looooooves the new hair cut - during one of Cam's crying bouts from his teething, she would soothe him with "You have such a cute hair cut, you don't need to cry."

Sara did a great job with the haircut.  There'll no be no more mistaken Cam as a girl.

Take a look at the pictures.
